Roosevelt Island Sports Co-ed Junior & Senior Soccer League For Kids In Grades 1 Through 7 Begins In September With 8 Week Schedule

Roosevelt Island Sports: … is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free / affordable athletic opportunities for the youth of Roosevelt Island and the surrounding communities. With the increasing costs to families for organized sports, the need for affordable sports options for children has never been greater, and Island Sports seeks to combat that trend by offering well-organized, competitive and instructional athletic programs that will not be cost-prohibitive. Roosevelt Island is home to a diverse and international population, and this non-profit will offer programs for children ages 5-15. In addition to conducting seasonal league play and skills clinics — Soccer during Fall / Basketball during Winter / Baseball during Spring — Island Sports also intends to launch programs for activities that don’t currently exist in the community Roosevelt Island Sports Executive Director Arya Shirazi reports: We’re very excited to announce the launch of the Roosevelt Island Soccer League this Fall! Players and families can expect a safe, organized and fun 8-week season – with (1) team practice and (1) game per week. The Senior Division (4th thru 7th Grade) will play most games @McManus Field on Friday afternoons. The Junior Division (1st thru 4th Grade) will play most games @Pony Field on Saturday morning / afternoons. The practice times will not be set until teams are formed, but will be mutually decided on by the coaches and families, and will be flexible. *We are still looking for volunteers to Coach, Asst Coach, and Referee. As reported earlier this week, RI Sports received a $2500 donation from the Transit Thrift shop. According to Mr Shirazi: The Roosevelt Island Soccer League is going to take the field for the first time next month. And this donation is going a huge way towards ensuring that the kids will be able to take the field and have all of the uniforms and equipment that they need.
