Concerned Resident Asks Why Visitors Are Allowed To Climb On Giant Roosevelt Island Sign?
A concerned Roosevelt Island resident asks: I would like to express my concern about what is happening on the island. Visitors are being allowed to climb on the displays, which is damaging them and affecting the overall appearance of our island. Are tourists supposed to be on top of the Roosevelt Island sign? Could some boundaries or signs be put in place to prevent visitors from climbing on the displays and help protect these areas? I hope something can be done to preserve and maintain the beauty of our island.

Every day we watch tourist climb all over the RI Sign. Years ago, I asked the then RIOC legal counsel about the liability and I was shrugged off. I cannot understand why people do stupid things every day and wish the sign was not there. One day someone will fall or get injured and we will see if this stops the acrobatics
Isn’t it up to Public Safety to warn people not to climb on the RI sign?
Years ago RIOC was on top of thing on the Island. I’ve complained & submitted pictures about the roadway by the school and 625 being uneven and potholes. Granted they filled them in only to sink from the heavy rain and traffic. The entire road needs to be done not patch work.
